I was on an abandoned or isolated island in the Pacific Northwest. The only inhabitantswere a small self replicating population of google-music-map entities. They had somehow become cut off from their original interactive “help-find” purposeand kept trying to ‘solve’ their scenario by making more of themselves…but the new descendants
had less and less ‘reason’ and even less mind/personality material (that had been built
into the original software) to work from so each generation was deteriorating further into non sequitur
inane self appointed micro ‘purposes’.
The only drive and/or awareness they seemed to have was this sense of determination that they
were fulfilling their/this purpose…no matter how disconnected (from the original user interactivity) and irrational their remaining content and capability was.
So when you ‘walked’ around (which was mediated through some other device…i couldn’t actually
engage with the space) you had to deal with these small tribes of helpless rogue broken helper-apps. They were just left with the shreds of their ancestors’ original interactive ecosystem (brains). It turned out evolution of artificial intelligence was the opposite of bio-evolution… the diversity reduced the variety through stripping away. Whereas bio evolution never stops coming up with variety of form, while expanding texture and possibility this was a constant reduction into smaller and smaller particles…slowly working it’s way down to the basic elementary unit. Maybe to start over?
Somehow Bob and Maiko were stuck there and i was trying to rescue them…from an idyllic vacation that how now descended into this non-space. As it turned out Bob and Maiko were just shadow presences of their physical persons and it became impossible to actually find them or make direct contact or maintain a coherent dialogue…they were communicating somehow through the echoes leftover from when they had been using some of these apps.
